Zion Half Marathon - April 28, 2018
Why: They are a cupless race organization and very eco-friendly. Upon registering for the race, you'll need to opt in to get the free hydra-pouch or you can use your own hydration device for pick up at the expo.
Cost: $110
What do you get: Technical short sleeve shirt, cool post race box (filled with snacks like Honey-bee stinger, trail mixes, anti-bacterial, wipes, protein bars), hydra-pouch, view of the awesome Zion mountain range, s'more at expo, meeting other cool runners who are just as excited as you. Aid stations located about every 2 miles which have both water, electrolytes, and gel packets. Half way through, there's oranges and bananas. There were also bananas and chocolate milk at the finish line.
It should really be renamed to hydra-CUP. Literally, a silicone flat cup with a clip attached to it. What's nice about this version versus the other silicone cups out there is that clip. I personally like to clip this to my other hydration device, Nathan QuickShot Plus Flask, Blue Danube/Diva Pink, One Size
. Some clip it to their waist, but I end up finding a lot of them in the port-o-potties. Women can clip them to their sports bras. This hydra-pouch does not hold your water/electrolytes while you're running. It is meant to hold the liquid as you drink it at the aid stations. Instead of wasting that one time use cup, you can reuse this one as you go. Just think how much this would help the environment.
How to use: simply place your thumb where the "spout" is and the index or middle finger on the other end and squeeze to open the cup. Then fill at the water stations and pour into your mouth. You can wrap your mouth around the spout if you wish. I personally found it easier and faster to just pour into my mouth. Voila done!
Original start time: 8am, due to strong winds, pushed back to 7am. Glad they pushed it back an hour, so we can do more during the day.
The race requires us to get to the site at least 2 hours before start time. This race does not have any shuttle to get to the start. I've done the other races with them before Grand Teton and Yosemite both have shuttles that take you to the start.
